European Standards in Civil and Criminal Proceedings
The programme of the bilateral project includes study
visits of Dutch lawyers to Russia and Russian lawyers to the Netherlands, a series of
seminars in St. Petersburg,
publication of a resource book containing key presentations and relevant legal
documents, and working out a handbook for
Russian lawyers on civil and criminal procedures in the light of international
legal standards.
We hope that after exchanging experiences and views, Russian and Dutch lawyers will better understand each other’s systems of civil and criminal justice. Russian lawyers will have gained knowledge on how European legal standards are applied in everyday judicial practice in the Netherlands. Recommendations on civil and criminal proceedings in the light of Articles 5 and 6 of the European Convention of Human Rights will be worked out for Russian lawyers by a joint group of experts. The gained skills will be disseminated in the Northwest region of Russia and applied by Russian lawyers in daily practice.
